Following the success of last year’s event (above), the next Caritas Networking Day has been scheduled for 27 April 2024 at the church of St Edward the Confessor in Romford from 10am to 2.30pm. It is a significant opportunity for parishioners who are already involved in projects supporting Catholic Social Action and those who would like to be. In particular, the organisers are keen to encourage volunteers working with SVP, CAFOD, Justice and Peace Groups, or groups supporting refugees and migrants, running or assisting with foodbanks, involved in environmental projects, or working with the homeless, to attend.
Bishop Alan Williams, Siân Thomas-Cullinan, Director of Caritas Brentwood, and Fr Dominic Howarth, Episcopal Vicar for Youth Ministry and Pastoral Care, will all be speaking on the day. They will be joined by Edward de Quay who has been working to develop the Church’s response to Laudato Si’ since 2015 through various roles at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Laudato Si’ Research Institute.
Later in the day, participants will be asked to choose from one of three areas of focus/interest: environment and Laudato Si’, refugees and migrants, homeless and cost of living. People from charitable organisations working on the ground in these fields will facilitate conversations and input. Those organisations will include the SVP, CAFOD, Calais Light, Your Place, the Jesuit Refugee Service, BCCS and Citizens UK.
Says Siân: “I hope the day will be an opportunity for parishioners to network with others to share ideas and good practices, enriching every parish.”
