Caritas Diocese of Brentwood looks to strengthen ministry with new recruit

Attendees at networking day

After a successful Caritas Brentwood networking day attended by parishioners from across the diocese and charitable organisations including CAFOD, JRS, SVP and Your Place, Director Siân Thomas-Cullinan is delighted to be recruiting a development officer. Bishop Alan launched the Caritas Diocese of Brentwood network back in 2018, to draw together and support organisations and groups involved in social justice, peace and charitable action across Essex and East London. The new full-time staff member will play a role in supporting, developing and growing its various projects alongside Director Siân.

The annual networking day held at St Edward’s in Romford on 9 February was an example of such work. Says Siân: “It was full of meaningful connections and valuable conversations, and it was inspiring to witness such a group of parishioners and charitable organisations coming together to share insights, experiences and expertise.

“At its core, our networking day represented not just a gathering but an opportunity to lay the foundation for future collaborations and a call to explore social justice in our local contexts now more than ever. I urged attendees to reach out to their local communities, encourage other parishioners to contribute, seek a common social action with other parishes in their partnership, and discover what inter-faith connections and collaborations can be made.”

Sian is delighted by the progress that Caritas Diocese of Brentwood – which offers volunteers information on projects in their area on its website – has  made since 2018. “I am thrilled to be in the process of appointing a development officer. This is a real recognition of the growth of Caritas in our Diocese. This appointment will allow for further progress, support and opportunities moving forward. I can’t wait to welcome someone who will help us continue to push boundaries, meet the needs of those on the peripheries and achieve great things across Essex and East London.”

The three-year role is fully funded by a legacy given some years ago, specifically for the development of such work across the Diocese. (See more details below.)

Caritas Development Officer

This new role within the Diocese will help develop and strengthen our charitable action and ministry. Working alongside the Director of Caritas, the successful applicant will have excellent digital media, organisation and presentation skills, and a heart for Catholic Social Teaching, helping to share this valuable work in schools and parishes, supporting existing volunteers. £24,000 – £27,000 pa depending on experience. Full time, including some evenings and weekends.

Closing date 31 March at noon. More information and application details: [email protected]
