On Wednesday 26 February a lunchtime music recital at Brentwood Cathedral will feature two violinists – Krassimira Jeliazkova-Jones and Svetlana Kalinichenko.
Krassimira, who has previously performed at the Cathedral, received her MA in Music Performance from the National Music Academy in her native Sofia, Bulgaria. She lives and teaches in Essex, and has performed the solo part in major violin concertos such as those by Tchaikovsky, Brahms and Mendelssohn.
Svetlana, a well-known violinist from Ukraine, came to the UK when the war between her native country and Russia broke out, and has gradually regained the confidence and the belief in the need to play the violin again. Their joint programme details are to follow.
The concert will precede Vespers for Ukraine, which will take place in the Cathedral at 6pm, offering prayers for peace on the eve of the third anniversary of the Russian invasion. The service will feature a mixture of Ukrainian music and familiar English church music, including a contribution by Ukrainians who are now part of the parish community. The Ukranian Eparch (Bishop) for Great Britain, Rt. Rev. Kenneth Nowakowski will preach at the service. Refreshments will be available afterwards in the Parish Hall.
