This course has been designed to enable Diocesan Headteachers to develop their understanding of the role of the Catholic school within the mission of the Church, to gain insight into the complexities of headship in a Catholic institution and understand how the Diocese supports them in their work.

Five sessions will run from September 2024 to May 2025; each session taking place per half term on a Thursday from 15:15 – 17:45 in the Conference Hall at Cathedral House, Brentwood.

The remaining scheduled dates are as follows:

  • 6th March 2025 (#3);
  • 8th May 2025 (#4);
  • 26th June 2025 (#5).

Session 1 – Welcome, Distinctive Nature of Catholic Education, Mission and Vision and Diocesan Support

  • History and Mission of Catholic Education
  • Understanding roles and responsibilities of the Brentwood Diocesan Education Service (BDES) team
  • Catholic School Inspection and the role of the Diocese in Section 5 and 8 OFSTED inspections
